O'Leary Teaching Prize

The Michael O’Leary Prize for Excellence in Teaching

Every semester SU London awards the Michael O’Leary Prize for Excellence in Teaching to a faculty member nominated by the students. SUL asks its faculty to make as much use as possible of the resources of London, Britain and Europe, and to integrate them, whenever possible, into their curriculum, whether it be through class visits, guest speakers, or case studies. The faculty are also aware of the pressures and demands of studying in a foreign and new environment, and one of the Program’s intentions, in awarding this prize, is to thank those who truly make the students’ academic experience as valuable and rewarding as possible.

The prize is named after Dr Michael O’Leary, an Emeritus member of the Political Science department at Syracuse, and who taught public affairs for the program for a number of years before his death. His courses, in particular, exemplified the ways in which academic work can be used not only to address the desired learning outcomes of a given course, but to enable students to have a richer and more meaningful experience whilst abroad, and the Program and his former students would like to commemorate all that he did here in London.

Please submit your nomination for a faculty member, stating his or her name, the class, and giving a short paragraph in support of your nomination. This is an important and prestigious award and we want to know your views.
