Wednesday 3rd February
Kick off your Love London weekend with the Faraday Film club, hosted by Brian and Linda. Tonight's film is "Billy Elliot" at 6:30pm in the Student Lounge.
Free/No deposit! Popcorn and other snacks will be provided. No need to sign up. Just show up!
Thursday 4th February
Another Billy Elliot event, only this time it's the real deal--Billy Elliot, The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre (nearest tube Victoria). Please make your own way to the theatre and meet the rest of the group at our seats in time for a 7:30 start. £15 per ticket (non-refundable).
Friday 5th February
- Tour of the Tower of London with SUL legend, Professor Norman Reuter. Meet at Tower Hill tube station at 10:30am. Free/£10 deposit.
- Walk in the footsteps of the rich and powerful on our Royal London Tour. This tour winds its way through the city of Westminster, home of the houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Meet at Faraday House at 10:45. Free/£10 deposit.
- Go behind the scenes at the Royal Opera House. With luck we'll see some a live rehersals and have an intimate look at this iconic London institution. Leave Faraday House at 12:00 noon for a 12:30 tour. Free/£10 deposit.
- Join us for a shopping trip to Borough Market, the liveliest outdoor foodie market in London. Enjoy tasty treats from around the world! Meet Linda and Michele in the reception area, Faraday House at 2:15pm. Free/No deposit.
- Tour of Westminster Abbey with Professor Norman Reuter. Meet at the Abbey bookshop at 2pm. Free/£10 deposit.
- Join Brian for a tour of the Chiswick Brewery. See how your favourite amber nectar is made and sample some of the wares. The tour starts at 2pm; set off time TBA. £5 cost.
- And finally, what screams 'London' more than an evening at the theatre? This time around, we'll be seeing "Midsummer", best described as a romantic comedy with bite and edge. Tickets will be handed out beforehand so please make your own way to the theatre. Show starts at 7:30 in the Soho Theatre (nearest tube Piccadilly Circus). £5 cost (non-refundable).
Saturday 6th February
- Get on your bike! Join the Student Life team with a guided Bicycle Ride around central London. Meet at Gabriel's Wharf on Southbank at 10:30am (a detailed email with instructions, etc. will be sent to everyone who signs up). £5 cost (non-refundable).
- Don't fancy pedalling? Prefer to walk rather than cycle? Then you're in luck! Join Charine for a Beatles Walking Tour. Rediscover London as it was during the Beatles heyday. See the famous Abbey Road Apple studios and zebra crossing. Tour starts at Marylebone Station at 11:20am and make sure to bring your oyster card. £5 cost (non-refundable).
- Football Fanatic? Come on a tour of the world famous Chelsea football stadium; visit the player's dressing room and walk through the Player's Tunnel on a behind the scenes look at areas usually reserved for the players on a match day. This is truly memorable experience with many photo opportunities. £5 cost (non-refundable)
- Plays more your style? Come with us to "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" at the National Theatre. This is an extraordinary "play for actors and orchestra" conceived by Tom Stoppard and Andre Previn. £5 cost (non-refundable)
- A night at the Dogs! Greyhound Racing at Wimbledon Stadium...this is the England you don't get in the guide books! Meet Brian and Charine at Faraday House -- departure time TBA. £5 cost (non-refundable). **A donation will be made to charities that care for retired greyhounds.
- Next a treat for ballet lovers. Join Linda for a Night at the Royal Opera House where we will see "Romeo and Juliet", surely the world's most famous love story set to a beautiful score by Prokofiev. £10 cost (non-refundable)
Sunday 7th February
- Shop Till You Drop! Join retail guru Leonard Wiltshire and Melissa Willby for Retail 101 as they take you for a behind the scenes look at London's most iconic West End stores. Meet at Faraday House at 11:00am. Free/£10 deposit
- Prefer to sight-see than shop? Come with us on the Old City of London walking tour. Travel through time to the original London, a mere square mile nestled beside the Thames which has seen some of the most important events in British history and is home to some of London's oldest buildings and most majestic views. Meet Martin at 11:45 at Faraday House. Free/£10 deposit
- Another day, another icon. Professor Christopher Cook and Linda will meet you at the Royal Albert Hall to give some background to the cultural area "Albertopolis". We'll break for a picnic lunch -- homemade of course -- before setting off to the V&A Museum, one of London's finest and most beautiful museums. There we will be taking in the "Decode: Digital Design Sensations" exhibition which shows the latest developments in digital and interactive designs, from small screne-based graphics to large-scale installations. Free/£10 deposit
- Another treat in South Kensington, this time inside the Royal Albert Hall. Join Charine for the Cirque du Soleil's fabulous new show "Varekai" Standing tickets £15 each.
- Finally, how better to round off an action packed weekend than with a glorious concert of Beethoven's music? Meet Linda at the Barbican for a concert starting at 7:30pm. Tickets £10 each.
