Spring 2012 Students: get ready for a LOVE LONDON weekend!
Get out and explore London with us from Wednesday the 1st to Sunday the 5th of February! From theatre to ballet, from The Tower of London to Little Venice, there is something for everyone...and all at dramatically discounted prices! There will be a group sign-up session on Thursday, 26 January at 12:30pm in the Faraday House Student Lounge. Mark your calendars and be on the lookout for the official signup time.
Many events are FREE, however we do require a £10 deposit for you to secure your place. In most cases, you will receive your deposit back at the activity. All events are well-subsidized in order for you to take full advantage of this weekend! Performances and some events with admissions have ticket costs which are non-refundable.

Wednesday, 1 February
- Strap on your British dancing shoes and attend a screening of Billy Elliot at 6:30pm in the Student Lounge ahead of Thursday's trip to see the live stage version. Popcorn and other snacks will be provided. No need to sign up, just show up!
Thursday, 2 February
- Another Billy Elliot event, only this time it's the real deal -- Billy Elliot, The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre (nearest tube stop is Victoria). The show starts at 7:30 pm. £20 per ticket.
- See the magnificent Philharmonia Orchestra perform the music of Mendelssohn and Bruckner at the Royal Festival Hall. The show starts at 7:30pm. Cost: £2.
Friday, 3 February
- Tour of the Tower of London with SU London legend, Professor Norman Reuter. Meet at Tower Hill tube station at 10:00am. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Stroll along the South Bank (home to the London Eye and Royal Festival Hall) with SU London professor Ian Hessenberg. Meet at Embankment tube station at 10:30am. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Go behind the scenes with a Royal Opera House backstage tour! Starts at 12:35pm. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Join us for a shopping trip to Borough Market, the liveliest outdoor foodie market in London. Enjoy tasty treats from around the world! Meet Linda and Michele in the reception area, Faraday House at 2:00 pm. Free/No deposit.
- Tour one of London's most famous sites (and host of the recent the royal wedding) Westminster Abbey with Professor Norman Reuter at 1:00pm. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Tour another of London's olderst and most beautiful churches, St. Pauls Cathedral, with David Mildon. Meet at the church (St Pauls Station on the Central Line) at 2:00pm. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Tour the Fuller's Griffin Brewery in Chiswick to see how your favourite amber nectar is made and sample some of the wares. Tour starts at 3:00pm. £5 cost.
- Watch the excitement of Greyhound Dog Racing at Wimbledon! Coach departs Faraday at 6:15pm to arrive in time for the first race. £5 cost.
- See a contemporary take on one of Shakespeare's most enjoyable plays, The Comedy of Errors, at the National Theatre. The show begins at 7:30pm. £5 cost.
Saturday, 4 February
- Join Professor Dennis Bury for a cultural walking tour of Hampstead, a truly lovely area of north London containing one of London's largest parks - Hampstead Heath. The tour starts at 10:30am. Free /£10 refundable deposit.
- Come for a tour of Wembley Stadium, the largest music and sports venue in the United Kingdom. Walk from the Wembley Park Tube Station (Jubilee & Metropolitan lines) straight to the stadium & meet at the Bobby Moore statue at 9:45am. £5 cost.
- Shop Till You Drop! Join retail guru Leonard Wiltshire for Retail 101 as he takes you for a look at London's best department stores. The fun begins at 11:00am. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Come enjoy a delicious brunch at the renowned Blues Kitchen in the trendy Camden neighborhood where you can enjoy some familiar American cuisine. Then, take a jaunt around nearby artsy & edgy Camden Market. Meet at the Blues Kitchen at 10:45am (two blocks from Camden Tube Station on the Northern Line). FREE (brunch not included).
- Get out of Central London and catch a rugby match, an English experience that is not to be missed! Watch the London Welsh take on the Doncaster Knights. Just like American football... without padding. Game begins at 2:00pm. £5 cost.
- Tour the internationally recognized Houses of Parliament! Tour begins at 2:15pm, but students must arrive 20 minutes beforehand to go through security checkpoints. £5 cost.
- Professor Christopher Cook and Linda will take you on a trip 'round London's Little Venice with a barge ferry trip through the canals! A great way to see a hidden and beautiful part of the city, and it all ends with a traditional afternoon tea! Arrive by 1:30pm, as the boat leaves from Camden at 2:00pm. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- See the award winning Irish play Stones in his Pockets at the tricycle Theatre in North London. Show begins at 4:00pm. £5 cost.
- Visit the fascinating Churchill War Rooms, the underground complex where the famous British PM lead the UK through World War II. Tour starts at 4:30pm. £5 cost.
- Come see how London is transformed after the sun sets on the London By Night Open Top Bus Tour. Tour includes views of Parliament Square, Whitehall, Oxford Street and the Tower of London. Tour leaves at 7:45pm. £5 cost.
- Come have some laughs at comedian Jack Whitehall's popular show "Back Chat" at Riverside Studioes (Studio 2). Show begins at 8pm. £5 cost.
Sunday, 5 February
- Come with us on the Royal London walking tour and walk in the footsteps of the rich and powerful. This tour winds its way through the city of Westminster, home of the houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Meet your guide at the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus at 10:30am. Free/£10 refundable deposit.
- Get on a bike and enjoy a guided bicycle ride-tour around central London. What better way to cover our massive city than to zip around on a bike? Tour cycles away at 11:00am. £5 cost for the bike rental.
- Find out how your new city came to be during a visit to the Museum of London with Leonard Wiltshire! Also featuring the highly-anticipated Dickens and London exhibit. Meet at 11:00am at Faraday House. Free /£10 refundable deposit.
- Ahead of our organized flight aboard the London Eye, take a London Eye River Cruise along the Thames to see the best London sights from the unique river perspective. The river cruise begins at 2:45pm and ends just in time for the 4:00pm London Eye flight (see below). £5 cost.
- Climb aboard the famous London Eye for a bird's eye view of your new home at 4:00pm. £15 cost.
- Come let loose with our ever-popular Bowling with Brian event at nearby Bloombsury Bowling Lanes! Food and drinks are included! Begins at 6pm. £5 cost.
- Finish the weekend by attending a performance of Cirque du Soleil's Totem at the Royal Albert Hall. Show begins at 7:30pm. £15 cost.
