FALL 2010 students Get ready for a Love London weekend!

Get out and explore London with us from Wednesday 15 September to Sunday 19 September. From theatre to ballet, from The Tower of London to Little Venice, there is something for everyone...and all at dramatically discounted prices!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Sign-ups for all Love London events begin on Thursday 9 Sept! You'll hear plenty more very soon!

Many events are FREE! However for the free events we require a £10 deposit for you to secure your place. You will receive your deposit back at the activity. All are well-subsidized in order for you to take full advantage of this weekend! Performances and some events lwith admissions have ticket costs which are non-refundable.



Wednesday 15 September

Kick off your Love London weekend with the Faraday Film club, hosted by Brian and Linda. Tonight's film is "Billy Elliot" at 6:30pm in the Student Lounge.

Free/No deposit! Popcorn and other snacks will be provided. No need to sign up. Just show up!

Thursday 16 September

Another Billy Elliot event, only this time it's the real deal--Billy Elliot, The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre (nearest tube Victoria). Please make your own way to the theatre and meet the rest of the group at our seats in time for a 7:30 start. £20 per ticket .




Friday 17 September

    • Tour of the Tower of London with SUL legend, Professor Norman Reuter. Meet at Tower Hill tube station at 10:30am. Free/£10 deposit.
    • Photography Tour with a ride on the Thames Clipper! Meet at Faraday House at 10:45. Free/£10 deposit.
    • Find out how it all started....Visit The Museum of London with Leonard and Linda. The brand new renovation to this wonderful museum is a treat and you get to learn about the Big Stink. Meet at 10:30 am at Faraday House. Free event/£10 deposit.
    • Join Brian for a tour of the Chiswick Brewery. See how your favourite amber nectar is made and sample some of the wares. Please meet at 11.15 am at Turnham Green Tube Station £5 cost.
    • Go behind the scenes at the Royal Opera House. With luck we'll see some a live rehersals and have an intimate look at this iconic London institution. Leave Faraday House at 12:00 noon for a 12:30 tour. Free/£10 deposit.
    • Join us for a shopping trip to Borough Market, the liveliest outdoor foodie market in London. Enjoy tasty treats from around the world! Meet Linda and Michele in the reception area, Faraday House at 2:00 pm. Free/No deposit.
    • Get into Arsenal Football Stadium on the official tour and nose around backstage! Meet Charine at 2:30 pm at Holloway tube station. Tickets cost £5.
    • And finally, what screams 'London' more than an evening at the theatre? This time around, we have 2 evening entertainment options
      See Punk Rock at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. A story about young British students wondering what's next as they move through an academic milestone. Tickets cost £5. OR perhaps you prefer something magical? Magician Chris Dugdale will amaze and you get to discover the Riverside Theatre in Hammersmith (give yourself time to get over there and have a drink on their veranda overhanging the Thames. Tickets cost £5.

Saturday 18 September

  • Get on your bike! Join the Student Life team with a guided Bicycle Ride around central London. Meet at Gabriel's Wharf on Southbank at 10:30am (a detailed email with instructions, etc. will be sent to everyone who signs up). £5 cost (non-refundable).
  • Don't fancy pedalling? Prefer to walk rather than cycle? Then you're in luck! Join Professor Dennis Bury for a cultural walking tour of Hampstead. Meet Dennis at the Belsize Park tube station at 10:45 am. Free event/ £10 deposit.
  • Architecture & History rejoice! - Have a look at the City of London from it's Roman ruins to the famous and contentious Lloyd of London building! Meet Prof Reuter at 10:30 am at the Queen Anne Statue in front of St. Pauls Cathedral to start this walking tour. This is a FREE event / £10 deposit required.
  • Explore London's Theatreland on a West End walking tour. Get the inside scoop on an area you'll be getting to know for the rest of the semester! Meet at 2:30 pm at Faraday House. This is a FREE event/ £10 deposit.
  • Join in the Turning Point Festival at Camden's reknown Roundhouse! All told this event runs over 3 days, on 5 stages with 300 artists featuring live music, dance, circus, comedy, cabaret and more! Tickets are good for the entire event for Saturday which runs from 3 pm - 11 pm. Tickets cost £10 each.
  • An night of Kushner, Tiny Kushner! A performance of 5 one-act plays by Tony Kushner in their British premiere. Performance starts at 4 pm. Tickets £5 cost each.
  • Next a treat for a new take on a night at the ballet...its the Ballets Trockadero...it's not what you think. The Peacock Theatre is just down the street from Faraday House. Performance begins at 7:30 pm Tickets cost £10 each.

Sunday 19 September

  • Shop Till You Drop! Join retail guru Leonard Wiltshire for Retail 101 as they take you for a behind the scenes look at London's most iconic West End stores. Meet at Faraday House at 11:00am. Free/£10 deposit
  • Prefer to sight-see than shop? Come with us on the Royal London walking tour. Walk in the footsteps of the rich and powerful on our Royal London Tour. This tour winds its way through the city of Westminster, home of the houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Meet Ria at 12:00 at Faraday House. Free/£10 deposit

  • Another day, another icon. Professor Christopher Cook and Linda will take you on a trip round London's Little Venice: It's a guided walking tour of this charming area of London, it's a picnic with homeade goodies so you'll feel right at home and then you'll board a barge ferry for a trip through the canals! A delightful event! Meet time 11 am at Warwick Ave tube station Free/£10 deposit
  • It's Buckinham Palace people!! You've got to see it. We have a limited amount of tickets for this tour - ticket cost is £10 each. Meet time will be confirmed for the 3:45 pm admission.
  • Don't let the opportunity pass to see a performance of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre!c Performance begins at 4 pm. Tickets cost £10 each
  • Another chance today to get into the Turning Point Festival at Camden's Roundhouse. Today's tickets are good from 3 pm - 11 pm. tickets cost £5 each.
  • Bowling with Brian! Brian is hosting a fun and social event to wrap up an exciting weekend. Share your Love London experiences with new SU London friends while getting to throw bowling balls! Event price £10 each.
