US State Department

The US Department of State has a special website for American students traveling abroad, studentsabroad.state.gov, with information from everything from what to do if you lose your passport to how to vote from abroad.

The Department of State regularly makes security recommendations. They come in many types but the key distinction is between the term "Caution" (as in a ‘Worldwide Caution’) and the term ‘Warning’, (State Department's strongest category of advisory). We will post them as we receive them on the notice board in Reception, and email them to all students, staff and faculty. The Director and Associate Director of SU London are part of the London Embassy’s Warden system, and we will immediately pass on any alerts and information given out to this network.

The US Embassy encourages American citizens to register their travel plans on a secure website in case of an emergency. If you have not already done so, please log onto travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ to register your details.
